Review: The Instigation - S/T 7"

Put on your boots because I present to you a 7" hailing from FAR EAST ASIA that does everything punk a band in America could do. With songs about foreigners, racist skinheads, not wanting to do anything, and of course a song about a gold digger however with the title "crack baby". I really am enjoying this band right now because I think a lot of these songs are hilarious. The fifth track Misery Guts has a line, "I don't wanna fuck a fob" And as a asian I know FOB means fresh off the boat, but what ponders me is thinking about a asian dude pissed off with work, his friends, etc but also being in a environment where foreigners constantly surround you thus allowing things like cheap sex and drugs to be in more ready access or racists. I'm not sure how big the white power skinhead thing is in far east asia but CVLT NATION taught me gay white power skinheads exist in Russia so I think realistically anything is quite possible.

I should also mention this band consists of members from Japan, UK, China, and Canada. Not only did they self-release their first 7" but they also stated I would like this if I liked Dean Dirg and Dead Dirg fucking rules (R.I.P.) anyways check it out bruh, and buy a copy there's only 200 of them and you know foreign shit is top bragging rights/punk points!

Review: Terrible Feelings - Backwoods

"Terrible Feelings from Malmö, Sweden have existed since fall 2009. They sprung out of late parties, punk rock, pop, and friendship. The band has to date released three 7”s and one full length album. They’ve embarked on no less than five full European tours and two US tours (one on each coast).  They’ve shared stages with bands such as Jeff the Brotherhood, White Lung, Imperial State Electric,  Fucked Up, The Raveonettes, and The Babies; and were handpicked by none other than Refused as support in both Europe and Sweden on their final tour.
Musically Terrible Feelings has been described as proto punk, dark power pop and gloomy surf, with a tint of both country and 70s hard rock. All descriptions are correct. It’s rock 'n' roll." - Guy with a Cool Radio Voice

There's just something about female fronted bands that just captures you possibly referring back to my MASSENGER review from a few months ago, however one thing I would like to note is I really like to look into the lyrics female singer's write because to me all lyrics tell a story. And like all stories there are origins, inspirations, feelings, and thousands of things that go on when one puts all of this into words and must sing these songs to the fullest and hearts content delivering this powerful impression on the listener(s) in both on the turntable at home and in a room full of 100's of sweaty young adults.

For those looking for some jams reminiscent of 80's esque bands with songs about adult promiscuity akakakaka young love and the ultra powerful feelings that emerge from such bonds listen to Terrible Feelings.

Review: Metalleg - Hit of the Week

Remember that band DIRTY FENCES I reviewed a while back? Anyways coincidentally another band with members from said band from New York gets emailed into the site and damn I gotta say I've been digging this LP but then again I liked the TOO HIGH TOO KROSS LP so much I got both the tape version then the vinyl version haha.

When I think of bands like METALLEG or DIRTY FENCES I think of friends hanging out, jamming, and having a fun time but sharing a collective of experiences from their life while creating new ones while looking back in retrospective. The best lyrics as they say are short statements that are direct and straight to the point and first person making it very personal and enjoyable to the listener.

Definitely I can understand the pop punk tag that has been thrown onto this release by METALLEG because lyrically I still feel the TOO HIGH TOO KROSS vibe but more passive less drug induced and "adventurous". As if the feeling of being a hometown hero but growing out of that phase yet still longing for the past and the realities of just fucking suck and the choices you have are far few from what you really want.

Anyways give this album a listen with the same singer of DIRTY FENCES, the vocal hooks and melodies are more than enough to get you hooked. Definitely looking forward to more releases by both DIRTY FENCES and METALLEG. Probably gonna order the color 12" and check out more New York bands now.

Stream: Holy - The Age of Collapse

I saw this band at the Hard to Find in Goleta earlier this year with Punch and damn these Italian dudes definitely are one of my current favorites in "hardcore". Read the lyrics too and memorize that shit because the next chance you get to see Holy you'll know what I mean. And if you're a person who already is into anything straight edge and vegan then you have no excuse especially!

Stream: Plagues - Perfect State

"Finally, six brand new tracks from Socal's best kept secret. Plagues have already started to make weigh playing countless shows in their area including Power Of The Riff and releasing two EP's under Irish Voodoo Records. Now they are back, with a sharpened perspective, precise execution and overall sonically more in tune with their identity. This record has taken a bit of a darker turn. Matt and Buddy have constructed a cold, calculated sound which perfectly piggybacks the trucking drums, warm thick bass tone and seething pained vocals. Creating this tone mountain called "Perfect State". Limited first pressing of 300. Special limited edition of 100 on Purple colored vinyl. Digital download card included."
